BreastComfort Slings and Pads for Radiation Therapy
BreastComfort’s slings and inserts are designed to bring relief to painful and uncomfortable skin under the breast. The cushions prevent chafing, wick away perspiration and help prevent bacterial growth. The BreastComfort Single Sling, designed especially for women receiving radiation for breast cancer, is worn when one is not wearing a bra. The strap is completely adjustable and will fit most everyone. Women have found that wearing a BreastComfort Sling from the onset of radiation therapy, even before any side effects have begun to appear, is the most effective way to minimize uncomfortable side effects to the skin. Wearing the sling as many hours as possible throughout the day, will provide the most comfortable results. Many women also choose to wear the sling while sleeping.
Large-breasted women undergoing radiation therapy on the underside of their breasts may find their skin developing painful, sore and even weepy lesions in the skin folds beneath their breasts. The inflammation can become exacerbated by excessive perspiration and chafing, resulting from skin-to-skin contact.
The BreastComfort Single Sling allows the breast to rest on a soft cushion giving better air circulation beneath the breast while wicking away perspiration to keep the sore areas dry. The cushion prevents excessive chafing of adjacent areas of skin beneath the breast; the antimicrobial properties discourage bacteria growth. The non-stretch straps can be adjusted for comfort so there is no pressure to the sore areas beneath the breast or on the neck and shoulder.
The BreastComfort Sling can only be worn without a bra, so many women prefer to supplement the slings with the BreastComfort Strapless Cushioned Bra Inserts. The pad, with no straps, is tucked beneath the breasts inside the bra, offering both a comfort to sore breasts throughout the day and further protection from rubbing against the bra itself.
